Frank Romano did a book all about this, it’s called The History of the Phototypsetting Era. It’s hard to find a copy for sale but you can probably get one through an inter-library loan.2 -

I use a Horizontal Real Arcade Pro fight stick. Feeling the stick and buttons click and clack is very satisfying.2
